As a child moves into the middle years, they begin to gravitate more towards peers than parents. Before the ae of 9, children will typically side with a parent when in a dispute about a peer. By the 5th and 6th grades, however, the child begins siding more with peers than parents, with peer conformity reaching its peak in the 9th grade.
