All children need role models from both the female and male genders as they grow up. Single moms need to find male to play a role in their children`s lives. This person could be a boyfriend, brother, grandfather, neighbor, or friend. Single dads need to do the same thing. Children learn social rules and behaviors from adults in their lives and they need to learn both gender roles in order to grow up emotionally healthy.
