October 31, 2003, Newsletter Issue #100: Silence is Golden

Tip of the Week

Sometimes conversation lags between two people or in a crowd and as a consequence, most people feel uncomfortable, nervous, or embarassed, thus making it even harder to come up with something to say to end the silence. The more you focus on the silence, the worse it becomes. Instead, think of the silence not as something wrong, but as something good. Call it silent reflection. If you relax with the silence, people around you will too.
