Tip of the Week

An attachment disorder occurs when the attachment period -- typically during the childīs first 12 months of life -- is disrupted or inadequate, leaving the child with the inability to form a normal relationship with others and an impairment in development. This can happen as a result of a number of factors, including adoption, foster care, illness on either the part of the parent or child, frequent changes in primary care giver, abuse or neglect, inadequate or inconsistent parenting, among other reasons.
