April 28, 2006, Newsletter Issue #131: Creative Rewards

Tip of the Week

Be creative when rewarding a child for appropriate behavior. Involve the child in the decision process if possible, letting him/her chose the reward. No one knows better than the child what will motivate good behavior. Rewards do not have to be extravagent. You need not promise Disney World, a new bike, or some other expensive reward. Children will often work for anything if it is a surprise or something unexpected.
